Crush City x Trem Listening Party

Late last month Crush City held well executed listening party for Trem's FTTOHNL. Although the album only had a few spins in its entirety it didn't put an end to the vibe, DJ's dug out them gems!!
Ironlak writers got the job done and did what they do best too. Here's a few flix from the day. I hope to put together a short video of the day however it seems a recent mac update has kindly bent my master suite over and given the serials the old rogering if you catch my drift.

Style needs no color: SCHWARZ AUF WEISS Vol. II Book

Style Needs No Color works on the notion that excessive colors and flashy techniques should not be used to repair a weak foundation. It upholds the philosophy that artwork should be able to stand alone without unnecessary distractions, and therefore SNNC artists restrict their palette to black and white. In Schwarz auf Weiss Vol. II, the follow-up release to their successful first book, you can see the stark beauty and striking simplicity of this idea in action. Since their first title, the SNNC collaboration has expanded significantly, manifesting itself in a series of noteworthy exhibitions, live painting shows, installations and street wear collaborations across the world. SNNC has invited a diverse range of international artists from their growing network to contribute black and white illustrations, vector graphics, street art and graffiti styles to this impressive publication.

Featured artists: Alexis Marcou, Andreas Pistner, Army of Snipers, Aro, Base23, Bayo, Bezt, Derek Stenning, Dust, Duster 132, Frau Isa, Lars Henkel, Hombre, Imaone, Kornel, Monsta, Mr Gauky, Nicholas Di Genova, Nychos, Peachbeach, Peter Aurisch, Pixelpancho, Pavel Ripley, Robert Proch, Russ Mills, Sainer, Satone, Schwarzmaler, Shame ABC, Simon Prades, Sit, Sozyone, Stephane Tarteline, Tasso, Won ABC and many more.

Martha Cooper - Hip Hop Files - Photographs 1979-1984

Martha Cooper has the reputation of being the first and foremost photographer of emerging Hip Hop culture in New York City.

Hip Hop Files - Photographs 1979-1984, makes a significant part of her extensive and unique archive accessible for the first time.
The book documents the beginning of the phenomenon, now known as Hip Hop. The publication of many of Martha’s photos in the early 80’s, disseminated the culture both at home and abroad.
From 1999 to 2003, Akim Walta aka ZEB.ROC.SKI, well-known german Hip Hop practitioner and music publisher of MZEE records, tracked down the subjects in the photos and conducted numerous interviews obtaining insightful quotes and statements to accompany the shots.

Fortunately, Martha was at the right place at the right time to document young people creating the music, dance, and art that became known worldwide. She followed people who would one day become icons: LEE, FAB 5 FREDDY, ROCK STEADY CREW, DONDI, BOBBITO, DEZ aka DJ KAY SLAY, RUN DMC, SEEN, AFRIKA BAMBAATAA, BLADE, RAMMELLZEE, FUTURA 2000, GRANDMASTER CAZ, DURO, LADY PINK and many others.

"This book is destined to become the Bible for the Hip Hop Nation!!!"
PATTI ASTOR

"This book is a must-have for any Hip Hop historian or fan!"

"This is Hip Hop culture at its all time best. A monumental photographic achievement for the world. It doesn't get any better than this!"

Graffiti Tattoo – Kings on Skin: In their quest to improve their artistic talent and earn honest livings, many graffiti writers have naturally gravitated towards other artistic endeavors. Since the 1970s, these artists have been making the leap to become muralists, fashion designers, art directors, and, as of late, tattoo artists. In the graffiti movement, artists battle in the public eye to be the best and most respected, and the same goes within the tattoo world. These spray paint technicians are making a splash worldwide with their color mastery and wild styles, changing the face of the tattoo world by adding their letters and boldness. They are thus creating a new visual language for the skin, a language filled with burners and characters that depart from the standard tribal design and sailor styles. Join us in celebrating the artwork of the best artists that have transitioned from the streets to the tattoo shops around the world including Jason Kundell, Mr. Went, Ces, Sabe, Timmi Mensah, Circle and many others.

Euro Trash

Europe’s most notorious train crew, Monsters Of Art, celebrates 20 years of train havoc. It is with great pleasure that we honor their anniversary with a monster edition of ON THE RUN. Join us for a rare and privileged glimpse into the unruly world of MOAS. With over 200 pages that detail MOAS’s history and unique crew concept, along with classic tales from the train yard, including great escapes, writer beef, legendary busts, extreme graffiti feats, trains, trains and more trains. This is a must-have for all diehard fans of train graffiti.

MOAS blasted onto the Copenhagen scene in 1991. Once they had Denmark locked down, MOAS expanded through a series of high profile, international affiliations to become omnipresent in Denmark, Europe and now the world. Their infamous working methods have become the standard for those daring to compete. Many have attempted, but most fail. For those willing to try, be warned, they are ruthless inside and outside the yard, so proceed with caution.

MOAS—20 years on the run and still going strong. Don’t listen to the rumors; get the story direct from the source.

Reebok Classics and Rock The Bells

I should have delayed the trip for this rock the bells shit. Even though I seen all of these artist perform, some while I was there, to see them throwback and do these albums in there entirety would be an experience that not many would get to experience. It would hold even closer to the heart from coming up and listening to all these albums too. There is a reason these albums are classic and Reebok aint got shit to do with it!

Tape Death & M dusu Present: Des Chansons Sur Les Filles

Tape Death & I are pleased to drop the next volume of the canon - an instrumental release called Des Chansons Sur Les Filles.

Running 12 tracks deep, this release is a celebration of ladies & love - some grown folk music. I went with a mix of 60s-70s vinyl sampling, over-saturated live instruments & analogue-treated synths, & went with traditional soul/R&B chord progressions mixed with wonky futuristic rhythms.

It might not be to your taste, & I'm cool with that - I was going for something, & I think i achieved most of my goals. Hopefully that makes for interesting listening for some of you.

Cheers, MD.

I cant give you much of info about on this guy, all I know is that he frequents the forum boards and gets down with a gang of producers going under the name Tape Death.
The whole thing sets a pretty layed back and Lo-Fi feel which works well for me. Reminds me of a recent record I purchased from the Hi-Hat club series...Well swung drums, soulful vocal samples, ambient background layered with a touch of synth. Good shit.
