Crush City x Trem Listening Party

Late last month Crush City held well executed listening party for Trem's FTTOHNL. Although the album only had a few spins in its entirety it didn't put an end to the vibe, DJ's dug out them gems!!
Ironlak writers got the job done and did what they do best too. Here's a few flix from the day. I hope to put together a short video of the day however it seems a recent mac update has kindly bent my master suite over and given the serials the old rogering if you catch my drift.

Martha Cooper - Hip Hop Files - Photographs 1979-1984

Martha Cooper has the reputation of being the first and foremost photographer of emerging Hip Hop culture in New York City.

Hip Hop Files - Photographs 1979-1984, makes a significant part of her extensive and unique archive accessible for the first time.
The book documents the beginning of the phenomenon, now known as Hip Hop. The publication of many of Martha’s photos in the early 80’s, disseminated the culture both at home and abroad.
From 1999 to 2003, Akim Walta aka ZEB.ROC.SKI, well-known german Hip Hop practitioner and music publisher of MZEE records, tracked down the subjects in the photos and conducted numerous interviews obtaining insightful quotes and statements to accompany the shots.

Fortunately, Martha was at the right place at the right time to document young people creating the music, dance, and art that became known worldwide. Reebok Classics and Rock The Bells

I should have delayed the trip for this rock the bells shit. Even though I seen all of these artist perform, some while I was there, to see them throwback and do these albums in there entirety would be an experience that not many would get to experience. It would hold even closer to the heart from coming up and listening to all these albums too. There is a reason these albums are classic and Reebok aint got shit to do with it!

Tape Death & M dusu Present: Des Chansons Sur Les Filles

Tape Death & I are pleased to drop the next volume of the canon - an instrumental release called Des Chansons Sur Les Filles.

Running 12 tracks deep, this release is a celebration of ladies & love - some grown folk music. I went with a mix of 60s-70s vinyl sampling, over-saturated live instruments & analogue-treated synths, & went with traditional soul/R&B chord progressions mixed with wonky futuristic rhythms.

It might not be to your taste, & I'm cool with that - I was going for something, & I think i achieved most of my goals. Hopefully that makes for interesting listening for some of you.

I cant give you much of info about on this guy, all I know is that he frequents the forum boards and gets down with a gang of producers going under the name Tape Death.
The whole thing sets a pretty layed back and Lo-Fi feel which works well for me. Reminds me of a recent record I purchased from the Hi-Hat club series...Well swung drums, soulful vocal samples, ambient background layered with a touch of synth. Good shit.
