R.I.P Killa Sha

There are several reports that Killa Sha, a veteran rapper from Queensbridge, has passed away. Many sources have reported that Killa Sha died due to complications from diabetes. The Queens Bridge natives death has also been confirmed via Twitter and other social networking sites.

While never being a huge mainstream star, Killa Sha, who also recorded under the name Sha Lumi, carved out an impressive career in hip-hop. Killa Sha had a long-standing partnership with Tragedy Khadafi and was a member of The Super Kids. During his career, he maintained ties to legendary Queensbridge rappers Mobb Deep and worked with artists such as Large Pro, Trife, Ill Bill, Jedi Mind Tricks, Tragedy and Screwball.

Wu Trafficano Hustle

This posted on GFKs myspace blog :

We Need a Group Name!!!!! Help us out!
As you know Ghostface Killah, Method Man and Reakwon are teaming up for an album dropping very soon, but Meth, Rae & Ghost need a name 4 the group. Txt MethRaeGhost to 66937 to name the band! If they chose UR name U can be in the liner notes

How about they fuck off the TANG and just call themselves WU. Asided from Deck these 3 are the only ones worthy of a listen.
UGod was booted and is a consistent fuck knuckle(View any Wu-DVD for a refresher), Masta Killah is meh, GZAs a drunk thats put out sub par verses over nice beats backed by a weak live show, Dirtys deaded in the dirt. The RZA being the RZA should just stick to the boards and acting as a crack head or informant. Have I missed any?

Problem sold...?

Sweet 16's.... Veteran Rap.

I know very little about this video aside from the fact it features some Run Royal faves.
Namely Neek the Exotic, Mikey D (Main Source), Sadat X and Large Professor. The track itself is produced by Ayatollah and has something to do with a fella by the name of Satchel Page, whom i'm completely unaware of (he may be a DJ or co-producer, not sure).

I know you all know that the great 'Dat X and Mad Scientist are nice with theirs, but it's always good to see Neek hold it down. Mikey D still got it also.

Mars Blackmon Yo Delf

I seen a few profile pics on the social weblings going round of peoples doing their Mr Mars Blackmon.

As you can see I've currently been using people with retardation as I have no pics of my bad self on this nerdbox. Dont sit there and say "What a sick fuck poking funnies at the retards", Im going to hell anyway fuck ya! Dont tell me you wont have a crack! Ha

Down by law

Kids get it

Money just fit like a glove

Froback Fridays....

Because i was listening to this album last night and this morning, i present to you all, The Brothas Unda Madness, otherwise known as The B.U.M.S. Their 1995 debut Lyfe N Tyme was a fantastic example of innovative west coast funk. following in the same vein as The Pharcyde, MadKap and Souls Of Mischief. The B.U.M.S. repped their environment to the fullest while steering clear of the more popular "gangsta" stereotypes that dominated the LA rap scene around the time.
With a cadence and flow that was far more New York than LA, these guys still catch burn around my way 15 years after the fact.
Hunt down The B.U.M.S. Lyfe 'N' Tyme, you won't be dissapointed.

The Year That Was... 2009.

I won't bore everyone with some long-winded spiel on the virtues of certain hip hop releases in 2009. No, instead, heres my five favourite albums from the year that we just left.
In no particular order:

Raekwon, Only Built For Cuban Links 2.

My love of Rae's recent out-put is no secret to anyone who has followed the blog. This album was met with high expectations and a range of mixed reviews, for me it was incredible. A sequel to his classic debut? Only in title alone.
A fantasticly cohesive listen that reiterated Lex Diamond's relevance and importance in a world dominated by the T-Pains, Gucci Manes and Li'l Waynes.

Masta Ace & Edo G (A&E): Arts and Entertainment.

Honestly, this one surprised the shit out of me. Grown arse men, with a track record that pre-dates your average ringtone rapper by near twenty years, updating their sound and managing to appear re-inspired rather than insipid. In a year where numerous veterans teamed up to create albums (see KRS & Buckshot, Del & Tame One, AG & OC amongst others) with varying results, these guys hit the mark with genuine lyrics and a great selection of beats.
Could've done without the all those skits though.

Blaq Poet, The Blaqprint.

Copped the itunes download the day it was released, $16.99
Copped the instrumental LP a month later, $29.95
Copped the vocal LP version a month after that, $34.95
Blaq Poet and DJ Premier: Priceless!

Cormega, Born and Raised.

Alongside Cuban Links 2, this has to be my pick of the year. Arguably the best, most complete album of 2009 and i'm not displaying any bias as prior to this album i was never the biggest 'Mega fan. He's made great music, don't get me wrong, but his long running feud with Nas has often seen his musical legacy overshadowed to the point that during the promotion of this album he refused to answer questions on the old beef. The production is astounding and Cormega's rap game has stepped up a notch or two also. Mega's lyrics always come across as profound and thoughtful with out being pretentious or weak, while the all-star lineup of producers keep your head noddin' throughout. Highly recommended!

Fashawn: Boy Meets World

"Who? I've never heard of him....." Straight outta sunny CA comes Fashawn and his debut album Boy Meets World. At 22 years of age he drew immediate comparisons to a young Nasir Jones. Aside from the obligatory street narratives, i can't see it. Dude is more than nice with a mic and his beats have a rugged souled out vibe courtesy of fellow Cali native Exhile. Just prior to the release of this, his official debut, he put out a pre-album produced entirely by Alchemist called The Antidote which is also worth hunting down. The Cali underground has been responsible for some great music in recent years and this long player is no exception.
