Behind Closed Doors Review
Finally after 2 weeks of wondering if the package would arrive...here it is.
First glance. A nice dual DVD case, chapter inner, and individually numbered CD and DVD to make the nerds feel that extra spesh.
The beat CD was not to bad, I'll have a second listen to let it sink in. Was the type of shit you might put on when your having a few quiet one's and wanna kick back.
Different style of beats that I'd go and buy, or make for that matter..still, some decent tracks.
Now, for the DVD. I had to keep in mind the sub-title of this DVD which is Hip-Hop Production DVD magazine. The chapter layout works pretty well layed out like mag should be (minus the ad's thank fuck) I'd rejig a few of the chapters for the "play all" experience, however you still get the chapter selection option.
The opening "Digging with Darren Paul" was rather piss. Shit, Id prefer some backpacker record nerd pulling out some obscures and telling me what cannibal ox track the breaks used on, rather than old "Dazza" explaining how he looks for "whatever" in a bargain bin. No shit! could have been a little more capturing.
Interviews were standard type ish. hopefully future volumes maybe touch on the producers equipment a little more along with maybe some live beat making and some flips..
Put it this way, what I want from something like this is a visual equivalent to xxl's scratch mag.
The Royal Rundown as follows :
Audio 8/10 All mixed down really well. Budgie's beats are killer!
Visual 7/10 Well edited, No supplements like outtakes or anything. some parts were a little shaky.
Overall 7/10 Considering I only paid around 25 buck to get it sent from the UK. you cant really complain..Its a great concept there is so much more they can cover, but its only early days. For the 1st volume its above my expectations.

All producers are in cahoots with the Louis Den beat battles featured below
