I'm approaching Rae's OB4CL2 with a certain trepidation. I'll either enjoy it or be fuckin apalled by it. Keeping track of all the so called "official" drops on the net has proven fruitless and has only given us a taste of Raekwons former brilliance, which has been largely absent from the slew pre-OB4CL2 mix tapes and recent Wu outings.
"House of the Flying Daggers" is the exception to everything stated above. Outside of the Dilla production, this is classic Wu. A gritty update on thier old 'hoodies and timbs' formula. Rest assured, if the rest of Cuban Links 2 sounds as impressive as this its going to be a more than welcome return to form.

GZA Brisbane Show

Last time the GZA hit our shores the Brisbane show was canned even after 3-4 weeks of tickets going on sale. This was due to an apparent loss of his show disc on an interstate flight or some bs.
I think the real reason for the cancellation was due poor pre sold ticket sales.

Lets hope this time round we don't get a repeat...The Wednesday night wont help much and the price wont help the unemployed either.

Dexter Season 3 DVD

There's something about this maggots "code" and the way he slices up the "bad guy" when he's a serial killing himself that I'm hooked on.
If you ain't seen season 1 or 2 or read any of the books it might be a little difficult to pick up now.

The long awaited release for the Season 3 DVD goes on sale Australia wide next Thursday the 20th retailing for around 35-40 clams.
I think I seen an ad on Ch. 10 for the premiere of season 3 next Monday night at 10pm if you couldn't be arsed.. but don't quote me that.

Season 4 airs in the states September 27th on Showtime.

The Live Guy With Glasses

Another blast from the past courtesy of Yo MTV Raps. Fakin the Funk by Main Source may possibly be one of Neek the Exotic's first appearances on wax. Taken from the White Men Can't Jump soundtrack in '92, "Fakin the Funk" is a classic slice of that early Large Pro genius. This track still bangs today and if you slept on Neek's "Exotic is Raw" LP from a few years ago your out ya fuckin mind. Straight up!

August Flip

August has bought some pad bashin already so I thought id post this months flip.

This was an old prog rock record I overlooked some time ago which I finally pulled out again. I must have skipped straight passed this one last time possibly due to the fact its a real short intro.
The rest of the albums not to bad for sound scapes, vintage synths blended with some pretty strange howling guitars.

Both MC's holding down the bars with fluent, precise and intelligently sharp spits all complemented by a damn fine production line up, this mixtape is going to be a taste of what these corrupted citizens are ready to unleash on the masses.. go cop it!!

Its About Fuckin Time!

After the much publicised sacking of "shock jock" Kyle Sandilands today i thought it no better time to cast our memories back to 2004 when Frenzal Rhomb's Jay Walley got involved in an on air stouch with our subjects Kyle and Jackie O, then hosts of commercial network 2day FM's Sydney drive time program.
The stations mother network AUStereo (B1O5, MMM and others) made threats against the band and its label, banning any further air play of the artists over remarks made by the band on stage at an all ages event in Darwin that Jackie O was supposed to be hosting.
The argument created a minor stir in the media and net with ABC's Media Watch questioning the 2day FM hosts professionalism and ethics, both of which have come back into question in the past few days.
While we focus primarily on hip-hop here at The Royal Rundown, most of us are firm supporters of independent music be it rap, rock or punk. The forcible diluting of music in our country by commercial radio and money driven major labels has led to a strong "indy" surge and the championing of original music in recent times, negating the "idols" and relegating most here today gone tomorrow music cash-cows to the scrap heap.
So lets hope these two commercial tools never make it back to our radio's and televisions. And if they do? well, just turn the fuckin' things off!
